What is the Jade Egg?
Basically, it’s a little egg-shaped stone, usually made from jade or other crystals that you wear inside your vagina (yep, inside). It might sound a little out there at first, but there’s a whole practice behind it.
The Jade Egg is used to help you connect with your pelvic floor, your sensuality, and your sexual energy in a really intentional way. It’s actually a powerful tool for building awareness, strength, and sensitivity in that part of your body.
Some women use it to tone their pelvic floor muscles (like way more mindfully than just doing kegels), while others use it for emotional healing, self-love, or to wake up parts of themselves that might feel numb or disconnected.
And the cool thing is that it’s not about “doing it right.” It’s about slowing down, tuning in, and exploring what feels good for you. You can do breathwork, movement, meditation, all while wearing the egg. It becomes this sacred little ritual of self-intimacy and empowerment.
History
It actually goes way back, like ancient China back. The story is that Taoist queens and concubines used Jade Eggs as part of their sacred feminine practices. These women were taught how to use the egg to cultivate sexual energy, strengthen their pelvic floor, and keep their bodies vibrant and youthful, not just for pleasure, but for health, vitality, and even spiritual growth.
They believed that the womb and yoni (aka vagina) were powerful energetic centers, and by working with them consciously, you could unlock a deeper connection to your feminine essence, your intuition, even your life force.
The practice was super sacred and kept pretty quiet for a long time, something passed down in secret, mostly within royalty or priestess circles. It’s only in more recent years that it’s been brought to the West and more women are rediscovering it.
Of course, the modern version looks a little different, we’ve got guides, classes, even crystals in every color now, but the intention is still the same: connecting back to your body, your power, and your pleasure.
Benefits
One of the biggest things people notice is a stronger connection to their body. Like, you actually feel more. More sensation, more pleasure, more awareness. If you’ve ever felt kind of disconnected or numb down there, the Jade Egg can really help wake things up in a gentle, loving way.
It also strengthens your pelvic floor, which means better bladder control, more support for your organs, and better sex. A toned, responsive yoni can lead to stronger orgasms and just a deeper sense of intimacy with yourself or a partner.
But it’s not just physical. A lot of women use it for emotional healing too. That space holds a lot: old pain, past trauma, shame, and the Jade Egg practice creates space to release some of that. It becomes this beautiful ritual where you’re not just working with your body, but also with your energy and emotions.
Just carving out time to be with yourself in that way is healing all on its own. It’s like self-care on a whole different level. Sacred, intentional, and deeply feminine.
Contraindications
While the Jade Egg can be amazing, it’s not for everyone, all the time. There are a few times when you’ll want to hold off or skip it altogether.
First off, if you’re on your period, don’t use it! Your body is already in a natural release mode, and it’s better to just let that process flow without putting anything inside.
Same goes if you’re pregnant, unless you’re working with a trained practitioner who really knows what they’re doing. There’s a lot shifting in your body during pregnancy, and you don’t want to mess with that energy unless it’s intentional and safe.
If you’ve just given birth, had surgery, or have any kind of infection, like a UTI or yeast infection, skip the egg until you’re fully healed. Your body needs rest and repair, not extra stimulation.
Also, if you have an IUD, it’s best to talk to a pelvic floor therapist or someone trained in Jade Egg practices before using one. It’s not a straight-up no for everyone, but you want to be cautious and informed.
And last one, if it ever feels painful, uncomfortable, or like your body is saying “nah”, listen. This is a practice of tuning in, not pushing through.
Hygiene and care
Before you use your Jade Egg, always wash it with warm water and a gentle, natural soap. No harsh chemicals or perfumes, just keep it simple. You can also boil it for a few minutes (5-10 mins) to give it a deeper clean, but only if it’s real, undrilled jade. Some crystals can crack with heat, so double-check what your egg is made of first.
If your egg is drilled (it has a little hole for string), you’ll want to clean that part really well too. You can use a little brush or even some unwaxed, unflavored dental floss to make sure nothing’s stuck in there.
After each use, wash it, dry it, and store it somewhere clean. I like to keep mine in a soft cloth pouch or little sacred box, just to give it some love and keep it from getting dusty.
Also, make sure your hands are clean before inserting it. And if you’re using string with it, use fresh, clean string every time. No reusing.
Basically, treat it like a little sacred tool, which it totally is. A little care goes a long way.
Results
The results really depend on you, your body, your energy, your consistency. But this what I can say from my own experience and what I’ve heard from my clients too:
At first, it was just this new, kinda weird thing. Like “what am I doing with a crystal in my vagina?”. But after a few sessions, especially when I slowed down and really dropped in, I started noticing subtle but powerful shifts.
I felt more connected to my body. Not just sexually, but as a woman. I would catch myself walking differently, standing taller, feeling this quiet confidence that wasn’t there before. My energy felt more grounded, more magnetic.
Pleasure-wise? Way more sensitivity. Things that used to feel kinda “meh” suddenly felt alive. And orgasms? Deeper, fuller, more emotional even. Not always explosive, but more connected. Like my body and heart were actually part of the same team again.
And emotionally, there were moments where I’d cry during a practice, just from releasing stuff I didn’t even know I was holding. Old shame, grief, body disconnect… it just started to melt. Not all at once, but gently, over time.
Some women say they notice better bladder control, less period pain, or more ease in intimacy with their partner. But for me, the biggest thing was feeling more me. Like I had reclaimed a part of myself I didn’t even know I’d lost.
It’s not magic overnight, and it’s definitely not about “doing it right.” It’s about showing up for yourself, over and over, and letting whatever wants to unfold unfold.
